Being Insensitive Is No Laughing Matter

I have noticed that some people hide behind comedy when they are being insensitive. In the wake of the recent shooting in Aurora, Colorado I had the displeasure of speaking to one such person. This individual said something to the effect that they hated their job so much they would rather have gone to see the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora than be at work. Then this person who will remain nameless processed laughed as if this was a joke. There is nothing funny about what happened in Aurora, Colorado. I wish that people would think before they opened their mouths to speak. Laughing at the misfortune and pain of others even in an off handed way is unacceptable. This incident reminds me of the people that think it is funny to make jokes about the Holocaust. When will we realize that while we do have the freedom of speech we should have enough decency to sensor what comes out of our mouths. Honestly I normally don’t have a problem with people speaking their minds, or joking. I do however have a problem with people making a joke when 12 people lost their lives and several others are in critical condition. Please pray for all of the victims and their families. And remember that just because you have a right to do say what you please does not mean that you should.

Love Jenni
